Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA May 9, 1949 p2
Military Rites in San Bruno for S.Sgt. Marino
Military services will be held at the National Cemetery, San Bruno at a time not yet determined, for Anthony Marino, 37, of Carmel. Mr. Marino, veteran of World War II, during which he served as staff sergeant in the Army, succumbed Saturday to a heart attack at the wheel of his car.. A native of Rose Point, Pennsylvania, Mr. Marino had lived in Carmel for the past 19 years. He was a member of Monterey Post 41, American Legion. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Eleanor Marino; a stepson, Gareth Geering, and a stepdaughter, Deborah Geering, all of Carmel. Friends may pay their last respects between 3 and 8 p.m. on Tuesday in the T.A. Dorney Chapel. Monterey. Marino was found dead in the light truck he was driving on the Carmel Valley road about two miles from State Route 1. The vehicle, apparently moving slowly, has run up the side of an embankment and overturned. Eight year old George E. Westscott, Carmel, riding with Marino, escaped uninjured. He told investigating officers that Marino “just seemed to go to sleep.”
