Monterey Peninsula Herald, CA July 29, 1953 p2
Mrs. Terecita Johnson Meares, whose family is prominently linked with the early-day history of Monterey, died this morning in Vancouver, where she had undergone surgery. She was the wife of John L. Meares, a banker in Vancouver Mrs. Meares was the daughter of the late Robert Johnson, at one time mayor of Monterey, and Teresa Johnson, the daughter of Albert Trescony, an early landowner in the County whose holdings included Chupinos Rancho in Carmel Valley. Mrs. Meares was born in the Bonifacio Adobe, site of the First National Bank, on Alvarado Street, and her grandmother was Miss Maria Bonifacio of the Sherman Rose legend. She received her early education here and in Italy and later was graduated from Stanford University where she was known as an extremely brilliant and popular girl. During her youth, the family made its home at the Larkin House at Jefferson Street and Calle Principal, her father later selling to Mrs. Harry Toulmin, the present owner. Mrs. Meares leaves two sisters, Mrs. J.B.R. Cooper and Mrs. William L. Wilson, both of Carmel Valley. Funeral arrangements at Seattle, Wash., are to be announced later.
