Mapping Your Ancestor's Home: Linking Today with the Past

The presenters will demonstrate how genealogists can combine land records, historical maps, aerial photographs, and other documents with Google Earth in order to provide a comprehensive view of their ancestor's homes and their communities. They include examples of adding layers, such as topographic maps, land ownership maps, and individual land plats to Google Earth and also discuss where these documents can be found. Using this approach they will explain the basic steps necessary to use Google Earth and to create images that can be shared with family members and others.

David Armstrong is a professional genealogist specializing in combining historical records with technology to enhance our understanding of our ancestor's lives. David retired as a leader in the field of math education.

Anne J. Miller, Ph.D. is a psychologist as well as a professional genealogist and historian. She is especially interested in combining genealogical and historical resources to provide a better understanding of people.
As professional genealogists, David and Anne do research for others, give presentations, and are involved with an orphaned bibles and photos project. They are members of the Association of Professional Genealogists and serve on the board of the Temecula Valley Genealogical Society.
