Forensic Genealogy, Part 3: The DNA Detective.

The use of DNA testing has been becoming increasingly important as a tool in genealogical research as the genetic trail an ancestor leaves behind is every bit as important as his paper trail. Through Y-chromosome and mitochondrial DNA testing, the modern genealogist has a powerful new tool for researching his roots.

Colleen was the speaker at the NSDCGS meeting in November, 2006 when her topic was Forensic Genealogy, Part 1: The Photograph Detective. She spoke again in February, 2007 when the subject was Forensic Genealogy, Part 2: The Database Detective. The 50+ members and guests present at the February meeting asked that she return for an encore. Dr Fitzpatrick is a recognized expert in optical and laser measurement techniques with many years experience developing innovative technologies for NASA, the National Science Foundation and the Department of Defense. She is an avid genealogist and is the author of Forensic Genealogy (available in the Genealogy Division of the Carlsbad Library) and DNA and Genealogy (which is coauthored with Andrew Yeiser).
