Barbieri Seeking information regarding my ancestors named Giuseppe (Joseph) Barbieri and his wife, Flora. They came to San Francisco via Italy. They lived in San Francisco according to the 1880 census up until 1900 when I lose track of them. They lived at 1425 1/2 Dupont Street in 1880 and on Natoma in 1900. Joseph Barbieri operated a saloon on the Barbary Coast at 1522 Stockton Street. As far as my research can tell, they had one daughter, Mabel, born in 1882. Christine

Davis Ammi Davis and his family were recorded in the city of San Francisco in the federal Census in 1880, living in enumeration District 57. Listed were Ammi Davis, head, machine operator; Eva Davis, spouse, keeping house; and Grace Davis, daughter, age 3. The family had been recorded most recently in 1873 in Portsmouth, N.H. The 1900 Census shows additional children: George Davis, Henry Davis, Florence Davis and Gladys Davis. I believe these four children died before 1910. Grace Davis married a man named Northrup and was an accomplished singer and voice teacher under the name Grace Northrup Davis. Her appearances were noted numerous times in the Oakland Tribune newspaper. John

Hucks John James, occupation "Chemist". born 15 Sep 1803 in Bermondsey, London England, son of a cooper he established a Resin and Oil Works in Lambeth Surrey around 1844, married Sarah or Harriet Blackshaw in 1844, emigrated to San Francisco before 1852. In 1854 he established Hucks and Lambert Axle Grease in San Francisco. Naturalized 1 Sep 1863 in the 4th district courthouse, living at 708 Lombard in the second ward. Listed in the Great Register of San Francisco (1867), age 60. Two children buried in Yerba Buena cemetary in 1853, Charles William age 2 1/2 and Mary age 8 1/2. There is reason to believe there was a falling out between he and his business partner, Lambert. His brother, James, born 27 Sep 1807, married Christiana Murley, date? was apprenticed to a Ship Chandler and Sail Maker in Wapping, London, in 1823. He emigrated to San Francisco in 1850 but there I lose him, his wife and child (born 1844) may not have accompanied him, and he may have returned to England. AFOLLISS@nc.rr.com

Kirby William Kirby was born 1817 in Ireland. He emigrated to South Australia with his parents and 2 brothers and 2 sisters. There he married Elizabeth Smith in 1848. He and Elizabeth left South Australia in 1850 for San Francisco to start a new life in the USA. They had 3 children – Bessie, Josephine and James. Bessie married Edward Peake; and Josephine married William Fulton; and I do not know about James. William and Elizabeth lived all their lives in San Francisco. Neunabe I am reasearching about how my G G Grandfather Henry Neunaber landed in San Francisco. He was one of the signers to the California Constitution in 1879 (signed in Monterey I'm told). Phelps Abner Phelps relocated to San Francisco by 1850 with second wife Charlotte Augusta Roussel of Louisiana from New Orleans. He was previously married to Elizabeth Beard Drew of Massachusetts. Abner and Charlote had 7 children, 6 living into adulthood. They were Joseph, Abner Murphy, George, Walter, Mary, Ynez and Louis. Their home now standing on Oak Street is on the National Register of Historic Places. All the children were born there and with the exception of Abner Murphy, lived there until their deaths. Roussel Onesime Lucius Roussel b 27 May 1831 in Louisiana and eventually settled in San Francisco. He was the son of Pierre Auguste Roussel and Mathilde Falgout. He married Elizabeth Shannon and was widowed by 1900. Their children, George, Augustus, William, Victoria and Louise were all born in California. Onesime's sister, Charlotte Augusta Roussel also came to San Francisco, was married to Abner Phelps who built the home now standing at 1111 Oak Street which is on the National Register of Historic places. cbarker385@aol.com

Sharp Henry J Smigel was born in Delaware in 1923. Henry was in the Army when he moved to San Francisco in 1947. There it is believed that he met Ella Mae Sharp (Scharp). Henry lived with his sister Hattie Daver, and her husband Harold Daver. Hattie and Harold had a daughter named Barbara Daver (Hirnik). Henry lived accrossed the street from the famous Play Land, and worked at the Fairmont Hotel. Henry and Ella Mae were married in 1950-1951, and had a son, Joseph Smigel in 1951. Henry died in a fatal car accident while stationed in Plattsburgh New York, at the AFB. In 1955 (October). It is believed that Ella Mae Smigel and her young son were living in San Francisco in 1955 when Henry died. Any further information on this family...or anything to add to my tree would be welcomed.
