Census

Starting in 1790, federal censuses were taken every ten years. The California censuses start in 1850 and continue to 1930 however the 1850 California census did not include San Francisco, Santa Clara or Contra Costa counties. A special California state-wide census was taken in 1852 that did include those counties. The following chart lists the California and San Francsico censuses with some of the locations where they can be found.
