Institutions & Organizations
Records of businesses, institutions, and organizations are invaluable to family historians in reconstructing the details of our ancestor's everyday lives. Business ledgers can show what types of tools or kinds of alcohol(!) our ancestors bought. Institutional records, such as school year books, may tell us the type and length of education received. Hospital records can provide a date and cause of death. For more about the invaluable type of resource, see Chapter 4: Business, Institution, and Organization Records in The Source: A Guidebook to American Genealogy, 3rd ed.
