ANGUS-GARTELL
Victoria Fisher Sunday, November 29, 1998 at 17:26:34
Hi to all, I am researching the names ANGUS and GARTELL in San Mateo county, Calif. My relatives, some possibly alive and others that have passed on igrated from Mission, BC, CAN cir.
I know that John Rae ANGUS b.Sept 1888,Ont,Can. his wife Anna Rebecca GARTELL b.Oct 31, 1895 (in Chile) and at least 2 children, 1 possibly a Kenneth b. cir 1920 left for California shortly after 1920. I am desparetly seeking info on the descendants of this couple. At one time they were living in Burlingame Calif. but died in Redwood city and Belmont, respectively.
Albert GARTELL, the brother of Anna Rebbeca, was also b. in Chile in 1891. He m. Mary Annie TROTT b.cir. 1889 in Sussex, Eng. At the time of her marriage her address was listed as Ont, Can. They also m. in Mission , BC Canada, Dec 1914. I believe they left for San Mateo County in 1924 because Albert's obituary stated that he had resided in Califonia for 4 yrs prior to his death. Now this obit did not come from California it was in the Mission paper in BC and would be interested in knowing more info from San Mateo County. His death date is Feb 16,1928. Also I believe that they had at least 2 children before leaving for the US.
Please help me find out more info on these family members. Any suggestions on where to find obits or other info to fugure out what they went to the US for would greatly be appreciated.
Thanks Victoria

BARLOW
Phyllis Stengl Saturday, February 27, 1999 at 23:03:11
My great grandfather Charles Bennett BARLOW died in Redwood City, San Mateo Cty, CA in January of 1912. He was, apparently living with his son, Lewis Forrest BARLOW, born 1864 Placer Cty, Calif. died 1949, Redwood City, CA.
Does anyone know anything about these BARLOWs?
Phyllis Stengl Thursday, January 13, 2000 at 20:37:46
I am interested in any BARLOW in or around Redwood City, particularly
Charles, Serena, Ada, Lewis, Chester, Herbert, Harry, Fred,
Vina, Lola, or Lillian. The family came to California to mine
gold and some moved from Placer County to Redwood City. The
others, I don't know where they went, so Redwood City seems a
logical place where potential records might be.
Anyone familiar
with this family?

I HAVE A BOOTH GENEALOGY (descendants of the family founder in
Maine in 1644 back to 1644 along with documented maternal lines
in all the intervening generations) IN PROGRESS.
I AM SEEKING info on descendnats of Wells Osburn BOOTH whose obit
from the San Mateo News-Leader, 14 Jan 1919, reads as follows:
W. O. BOOTH HEARS SUMMONS OF DEATH PIONEER S. M. MERCHANT DIES OF HEART TROUBLE: WAS A FORMER JUSTICE HERE W. O. Booth, 67 years old, one of the best known San Mateo merchants, passed away at his home at 103 N. D Street at 8:30 last night from heart trouble. He had been failing for several days. Booth was one of the pioneers of San Mateo. When this city was little more than a village he settled here. At one time he was justice of the peace for the second township. His business is located at First Avenue and B Street, San Mateo. Beside his widow Mrs. Margaret Dunn Booth, the deceased is survived by a daughter, Alice Booth, 15 years old. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at 9:30 o'clock from the McCarthy undertaking chapel on Baldwin Avenue and services will take place at St. Matthew's Catholic church commencing at 10 o'clock, followed by interment in St. John's Cemetery. It was first planned to hold the funeral from his late residence, but this plan had to be abandoned owing to illness in the family. No doubt Alice BOOTH was later married .. I could get no reply from letters sent to St. Matthew's Catholic Church as to whether she was ever married there.
In the family as shown on the 1900 census for San Mateo there were Wells O. BOOTH, Maggie, his wife (Margaret DUNN BOOTH) and a boy of 7 yrs. named Niles SULLIVAN, b. Illinois Oct 1891.
Was Niles SULLIVAN a son of Margaret DUNN BOOTH by an earlier marriage?
Who was ill in the household when Wells BOOTH died?
Did Niles Sullivan survive and continue to live in San Mateo?
Wells O. BOOTH and Maggie DUNN were joined in marriage on the 7th April, 1896 and their daughter Alice was born 1903 or 1904.
MY WISH IS TO HEAR FROM A DESCENDANT OF ALICE BOOTH, OR A DESCENDANT OF NILES SULLIVAN.

I was recently surprised to learn that my grand-father Vincent Joseph BRANNEN died in 1939 in San Mateo County, as opposed to SF County where he had lived most of his life. This would help explain the location of the death.

Dianne Earll Tuesday, January 25, 2000 at 22:45:33
Hi, My grandparents, Andrew J. and Ethel COWARD moved to San Mateo in about 1949 from Chicago. As I remember, she owned a children's clothing store in downtown for several years. I would like to know the name of that store, if possible. At some point after that, they managed a trailer park in Belmont. My grandfather died about 1963, while still in the area. My grandmother then moved to Montana to be with my parents until she died.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

FLANAGAN-HULL
Duston Brooks Monday, February 1, 1999 at 12:31:03
I'm trying to find descendants of Georgia HULL FLANAGAN. I noticed on the California death index that a Georgia FLANAGAN died in San Mateo County in 1954. I thought the name unusual enough to see if this is the same Georgia FLANAGAN I'm seeking. I know that my Georgia was born Georgia HULL in the late 1870's or early 1880's to George W. "Swope" HULL and Mary Devier HULL probably in Virginia or Kansas. The HULLs came to Alameda County, California in the early 1900's. Georgia supposedly married a FLANAGAN (or similar spelling), who was an attorney from Arizona. They had two children: John and Charles. Georgia's brothers' names were Lee, Clarence, Howard, and Bernard and her sister's name was Fayette.
If anyone knows about this family, please contact me.

He was a whiz at table tennis despite his huge size of about 300 lbs or more. He was outfiting a cesna aircraft with special wing fuel tanks and was going to attempt a cross Atlantic Flight to Europe. Later in the mid 50's I heard that his was missing on the above flight. Hi I'm resarching the life of Ralph E HODGES who is living in San Mateo County on the 1920 census. He lists his occupation as working for the Pacific Rural Press. I would like to find out about this publication (and articles which he may have written would be nice too). He lived in a neighborhood with just about every ethnic representation, came from Iowa, and was married to Winifred Berry Thayer. They had three sons: Earl, Glen, and Merwyn. Glen lived in the area until his death in 1994. My uncle Ralph was always a prolific writer (at least of letters in later life, few of which survived unfortunately). Anyone know of this family or of his brother, Earl Barton Hodges, who went to Stanford University in 1921?

KENNEALLY
Barbara Bolte Saturday, October 23, 1999 at 16:46:27
I am doing research on the KENNEALLY family. There were three brother who came from Ireland to California in the Bay area. They were William, Joseph and Charles. I was sent the following:
"an obituary from a November 23, 1953 newspapaer for a John Patrick KENNEALLY, who died at age 49 in Redwood City, CA, about 30 miles south of San Francisco, where he had been an auditor in the San Mateo County office of the State Board of Equalization for 19 years. He was survived by his wife Irene, a son John J., a brother William J. and a sister Mrs. Patrick J. McAULLIFFE, the latter two of San Francisco."
I do not know what "newspaper" in the area they are referring to. I believe that the John Patrick and his brother William J. may be sons of one of the brothers that came to California. If any of these names are familiar or if someone can help with any type of look-ups in San Mateo or Redwood, please contact me. I thank you for your help and your time.

I am researching Samuel and Mary Knight. These were a prominent, wealthy couple from San Francisco. In 1898 Sam'l bought a 22- acre lot in Hillsborough and had a large home built there, which they moved into in 1903. Sam'l was a trustee of Hillsborough for many years. He died in 1943 and Mary died in 1953.
I'm interested in anyone from Hillsborough with an interest in history to check out sites within Hillsborough and also to see what records about the KNIGHTs might be extant in the area.
This is all part of a biography I'm writing. I have a lot of information on this couple and their inlaws and relatives the PALMERs, HOLBROOKSEs, and CHABOTs.

I have been researching my grandfather, Benjamin Max Korenblue, who I never met, because he passed away (1949) before I was born. My father and grandmother, do not have any info. But, when my grandmother passed away 6 years ago, I found my grandfather's Army discharge papers, from March 5, 1919, and his Naturalization papers #964586. June 20, 1918 in San Mateo. I am trying to find out about him, like where he came from, relatives, etc. I contacted the army to see if I could get a copy of his enlistment papers, and after much delay, 8 months, I was told they were destroyed in a fire. As for the Naturalization papers, I spent 2 hours on the phone being transferred around, to no avail. Next I tried the US Gov., and again with no success. They gave me the run-around, sorta like, Whos on first, Todays pitching, etc.
Do you have any suggestions where to go from here?
Yours Truly,
Barry Blue

I am trying to locate two sisters who were my foster sisters in the early 60s, and who were later adopted by another family. Is this something that your work might be able to help with? I know their first names (Theresa and Dolores) and two last names that they both went by before their adoption (Morales and Hernandez). They were born in the early sixties (I have exact dates, but not at my fingertips as I write this, and also information about the date of the adoption).
