INTRODUCTION TO

NATURALIZED CITIZENS INDEX

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

From the Naturalized Citizens Index Book in the Santa Barbara County Superior Court Clerk’s Office, Santa Barbara Courthouse, Santa Barbara, California, transcribed by Lily Rossi, Emily Aasted and Dorothy Oksner, members of the Santa Barbara County Genealogical Society.
The earliest date found in the Naturalized Citizens Index was 1856.  Many of the designated Volumes may not be readily accessible by the Court Clerk. This may be due to inadequate storage space, and the Volumes may be scattered. The records in the Volumes cannot be photocopied and can only be viewed on site.  However, most records dated after 1906 are available on microfilm at the National Archives and the Family History Center using the Date of Admission as the reference and/or the Certificate of Naturalization number (found on the Certificate of Naturalization in one of the Volumes).  There are also books containing Declarations of Intention and Petitions for Naturalization in the Superior Court Clerk’s Office.
