I am looking for the cemetery/burial site for Merritt Woods Seamans/Seamons. He is listed in the 1880 Census in Twp. 8 on Andrews Creek, South Fork, California; living with the family Silvert. He was a registered voter 7 August 1880 - residence Igo, age 38. He died 14 February 1881. He was a carpenter. His name is spelled Seamans, but has appeared in some records as Seamons.

There is a small IndianCemetery north of Redding in a community called Castella.  My Greatx 3 Grandparents are buried there; David Holman and his wife who was aWintun Indian.  Since she did not read or write, so her name was spelledin a variety of ways depending on who was doing the
writing, it could appearas Siamat, Siamit, Symatee, Symotee, Simonota or Simartea.  She alsowent by the white names of Mattie and Kate.  If anyone is by chancenear enough to take a look I'd like to get pictures of the headstones. I'll happily return the favor for anyone who needs courtesy work done inAtchison or Leavenworth Counties, Kansas.

The BEEVES/BEAVES familyI am following lived in St. Michaels Parish, Madison Co., MO during themid-1800s. Louis (b.1809/11) m. Julye/Julie CAILLIOTTE dit LA CHANCE (b.1819/26)on 7 Feb 1832. Their second child, Nicholas (b. 1 Apr 1837) is the personI am interested in. I believe he m. Elizabeth Rebecca CHILDER/CHILDRESSabout 1859. He is in the 1850 census in MO living with his parents in MadisonCo.

If I have the right guyhe's in the 1860 census in Butte Co. CA with his wife Rebecca and a one-yearold daughter. So, how and when did he get from MO to CA?  Nicholasand his daughter, Lily May, are buried in Igo Cemetery, but I don't knowwhere his wife is buried.  Any information about this family is appreciated.

I am interested in findingout more about My ancestors David Holman and Simonota (an Indian). Accordingto my genealogy research they are my Great, Great Grandparents. They weremarried on Nov 17, 1859 in Shasta County, I've been searching for Simonotafor years, I only recently  learned her real Indian name.  Shealso went by first name of Symatee or Symotee and Mattie.
 
After many years of researchI hope that I'm now on the right track as Simonota attempted to hide thefact that she was Indian throughout her life.  They are listed inthe 1860 census as Holsman, I also have some birth certificates and deathcertificates of their ancestors.

I am looking for any informationon William Thomas b. circa 1868/1869 in the Azores Islands (Portugal).He married my g-g-grandmother Olga Friebel on June 26 1894. He either diedor they divorced but William disappeared. They had 8 children. I was unableto get any information from my grandmother about him. California deathrecords are vague.

I am searching for thegrandparents of my two granddaughters.  Their father never knew hisfamily, and it is believed that their father's 'aunt' is Shirley. Therefore,since not knowing the family, I need to locate Shirley's brothers and sisters.
 
Shirley's father is aGeorge Earl Tenneson who lived in Shasta County and also died there, Ibelieve.  Shirley married (1st) Emery Deay (spelling is correct) in1956.  She married (2nd)  a Larry Swanson.  Shirley DeaySwanson has told my granddaughter's father that she was his 'aunt.'

I am researching the familyof John N. CURTIS (1833-1902) and Elizabeth G. CURTIS (1840-?).  Theireldest child was Charles R. CURTIS, born in Pennsylvania in January, 1862and died between 1920 & 1930 in Norwalk, Los Angeles Co., CA. He married Lydia E. MCCONNELL in Kansas and moved to California prior thethe birth of their first child, Frank L. Curtis on March 3, 1893. Lydia died in San Joaquin Co., CA, on 20 Apr 1945

I believe, from the SSDI,that Charles and Lydia's fifth child, Harry E. CURTIS, died in Redding,Shasta Co., CA, on 22 December 2002.

I noticed someone waslooking for the Trewartha family back on this list in 2004.  My grandmother,Cora Leonard was married to Joseph Trewartha whose uncle(?) owned the drugstore in kennett.  They were married in kennet where her father LewisLeonard had a plumbing business. Joe died within a very few years. I thinkjoe is buried in Sonora.  I'd like to know what ever happened to aLeonard daughter named Ella.  Apparently, after the mine closed, theeconomy was not good and my Great Grandfather sold his homestead and movedto Oakland, where he too soon passed away.

He was a miner in Horsetown, 1850,Founded TUTTLE Gulch and TUTTLE Gulch Cemetery off Lower Gas Point Rd.,Cottonwood, CA.  1860 Census show French, Rebecca and Family stillin Horsetown. Shasta Courier article from 1863 refer to French and hislovely lady running the Gas Point Hotel.  Rebecca was in Santa Cruzin 1870.  Can't find what happened to French, can anyone help?

My father, Robert F. Prichardhad a half brother named John Elias Prichard. John was born in
Whiskeytown on May 7,1868, and died in Alameda County on September 19, 1943. I looked at theShasta County 1870 Census via your web site, but the only name that camenear to John's was Robert Pritchard (often the "t" is added or droppedin Prichard by mistake).

My father's and John'sfather was Elias Prichard. Elias came to  California from Wales tomine gold, he had been a coal miner back in Wales. He apparently marriedtwice, had a child in Whiskeytown,
and later four children(including my father) in Sutter Creek, CA  (where he managed a largegold mine).  I am trying to find some information about John's birth,and maybe the name of his mother.

My ancestor, William MacyWilber (also spelled Wilbur, Wilbor, etc.) died in Redding, Shasta County,CA on 3 Jan 1892.  He supposedly was in the County Hospital of Redding,CA when he died and was buried in their burying ground on 4 Jan 1892. I already have his death certificate, but would like to locate this burialground and find out if there was a tombstone or any record of his burial.

Frederick Egger is listedin the 1900 census in Shasta County. He is listed as "head wood-chopper".Frederick was born in Switzerland, married Mary Ann Griffin in 1857 andhad four children. Family lore confirms he was an adventurer being a furtrapper when he first arrived in America. Perhaps he was trapping in theNW before beaver hats were no longer popular. Any information about FREDERICKEGGER would be appreciated.

I am looking for a deathcertificate or entry for WILLIAM J. OAKS/OAKES. He was born in Maine 1833,and supposedly died August 26, 1901, in Millville, CA. I don't know ifhe is buried locally or not, but I doubt it. The family left ME, came toCA (around 1880) then on to Colville, WA. He divorced his wife OLIVE B(HALL) OAKS/OAKES 1888 and remarried CLARA SHEARER of Montana.  Ibelieve his family had property in Shasta County and I'm wondering if thereis a probate or will for him also. The family possibly came to Shasta Co.around the 1880's as they were in Yuba Co. for the census. I did noticethat there are other HALL people living in Shasta Co but I don't know ifthey are related at this time. They would be if they are from HATEVIL HALL,son of JOHN HALL OF DOVER.

I foundhim in the 1880 census in Shasta County listed as Jasper Herr, and a sisternamed, Elizabeth, born in 1877 was also listed. I found two Heer individualsburied in Millville. I am looking for informationon Thomas YORK who died in Cottonwood in 1948. He was born in Bangor MaineJune 13 1903. He was in Cottonwood working on a road living with his girlfriend,his two sons were in an orphange in Auburn California. I know he did notdrive and I believe he could not read. He claims to have been from Russiaand those who knew him remember is thick accent.

I have a copy of his deathcertificate and social security application. On his marriage certificatehe claims his father Jack York was born in NYC and his mother Alma BUCHLwas born in Hartford Conn. He refers to his father also as Thomas and hismother as Anna Butchl.

Creek, El Dorado County,  California. At that time he was living with another miner, William R. Hicks, a 49-yearold native of Massachusetts who possessed $4000 worth of real estate.

John appears living aloneon the 1860, 1870, and 1880 Censuses of Shasta County, California. In 1860, he is living in Horsetown and is enumerated as John MACANPLEY,a 55-year old miner and native of Ireland.  In 1870, he is John MULANPHLY,65-year old miner and native of Ireland, living in Township 5, Stillwater,Shasta County.  In 1880, he is John MALANPHY,a 73-year old miner stillresiding alone in Township 5, Shasta County.  He and both his parentsare listed as having been born in Ireland and he is enumerated as marrieddespite the fact that no wife or family was located with him in that orthe previous three census years.

I realize chances areslim, but any information concerning this individual would be greatly appreciated.

Walter WRIGHT m. Mrs.Carrie MILLER I think maybe around 1920 but before a deed dated 29 Sep1935 . Walter worked for the Millers. He was a stock rancher. He helpedto move all the cattle to Redding CA in the Fall and the Winter monthsand back in the spring to Fort Klamath, OR. On one deed is Troy M. MILLER. I would like to know which MILLER family was in Redding area during the1920's- maybe up to the 60's and/ or longer?

I am trying to researchmy family and I believe my maternal grandparents lived in the Redding areafor quite some time and  are buried there.   My Grandmother'sname was Charletta (Letty) Lucille Signett nee Greene.  I believeshe was born 7/16/1896.   She died in Redding sometime between1959 and 1961.

My Grandfather was FredP. Hovey 28 NY.  Cpt C was killed androbbed in 1857 as the story goes but he shows up in later voter lists. Samuel & Joseph seem to disappear.  John and Richard show up in1860 & 1870 Shasta Co. Census.  All had settled with parents inBoone Co, IL prior to 1840 and the rush.  John lived out his lifethere.  R R moved back to Boone Co where he died in 1889 leaving adaughter Mary J. and Gdau Leonora living with John.

I have a copy of a deedof Ebeneezer Jones with Charles Sturtevant that was dated  10 Apr1920.
Ebeneezer Jones marriedJessie Wright b. 2 Jan 1888 in Douglas County Oregon, then lived in Kennett.I don't know when nor where they got married. Jessie's parents were EzekielWright and Nancy Jane Gibbs. Nancy was called Mary and Jennie by two differentrelative families.  Jessie's sister is Ethel and she married CharlesSturtevant and that is how the connection of the deed is. I don't knowwhere or when they got married. Ezekiel dies young in 1894 and Nancy hassome of her children raised by others.

From distant relativesthey have letters that say Ethel marries again to a Mr. Harrington witha son Harold Harrington. He birth, I am not sure when she was born. WithEzekiel dying in 1894 Edith would have been born after 1882 and before1888. I believe she was born before Jessie but I could be wrong-for sureshe was created before 1894.  Some of the Wright's moved to Calif.and I can't seem to find more information on them nor on Ethel nor Jessie.

Jessie and Ethel's brotherWalter lived near Fort Klamath and he had married Carrie unknown maidenname. Walter died in July 16, 1965 and maybe Carrie went to relatives inCalif.? She had a daughter Martha Sullivan. I don't know if Carrie's maidenname was Sullivan.

This family is a brickwall for me. I am hoping maybe someone in the Shasta County would rememberany of the above names or that there is information at one time on them. There maybe be a chance that cousins or relatives
moved with them?

WILLIAMS (maiden namemay have been BRYANT), born in Indiana about 1818, and ???? Williams. I would also appreciate any information about Malinda's twin, Amanda (Lucinda)Emiline WILLIAMS, her brother GEORGE WILLIAMS, born about 1840, and hersister Mary WILLIAMS, born ???.  Malinda may have had other siblingsbut these are the only ones I could find living with, or nearby, Margarettein the 1860 Shasta census.  AMANDA WILLIAMS, married WILLIAM D. They were from east Tenn.Dad moved to miami, fl. after WW11, and i was born here. I was named afterall family last names, as was the southern tradition at the time. I knowthat all the Sheltons and barnetts moved to Texas , Oklahoma, and Calif.after the civil war. We lost track after that. My great great great granpawas Francis Barnett Nolner. He was captured by the yankees during the civilwar. He then was sherrif of Smith county Tenn. in about 1865. He then movedwest I think to oklahoma or calif. From what I got from my grandma andgreat aunts, the sheltons moved to Texas.  If we are related to somefolks in your area,I would like to know. My younger cousins in Chickamauga,Ga. are trying to find thier history. Grandpa Merritt married Leola Kelley,who I understand was part Cherokee. Her uncles owned the Kelly log cabinin Chickamauga Nat. Battlefield, which still stands today. It was the headquartersfor both sides as the battle raged. The park service refused all of thefamilys requests to change the spelling to Kelley.  I am a retiredpolice officer from Miami, as was my father. Please let me know if anyof this strikes a bell.

I would like to know theyear John D. Lavery ran for sheriff in Shasta County.  Although, hedid not win. He was a Mexican War soldier and a Civil War soldier. He died in 1900 and is buried in Redding.  He probably ran prior to1890.

Malvina (Melvina) MaddoxO'NEIL, born Horsetown, Shasta County, CA.  I would like any informationon her, I am hoping for her date of birth & parents information. Her daughter Alma Cecilia Chandler was born in Windsor, California in 1891,the man we think she married was supposedly born sometime after 1816.

Lived in Buckeye Shasta CoCa from around 1880's to at least 1920, as she was last found in the 1920census as living with her son William Eastwood & his wife Addie inBuckeye.  May have been born in Georgia, married Alexander or alsoknown as John Grigsby in Texas, had 2 daughters born there, Sadie GrigsbyCunningham McCallister my G Grandmother, & Roena R Grigsby RobinsonCotton.  1st son William Eastwood born Mar 1871, 2nd son George SEastwood about 9 yrs later. 1880 census shows she was living in Buckeyewith William Eastwood, 2 sons & the 2 daughters from Texas.  Myhave been buried in Buckeye, now known as Newtown Cementary as my familythe Cunninghams are all there, WilliamV Cunningham, Sadie Cunningham McCallister, William Cunningham, also FrankV & Eva Parker Cunningham, Harold Cunningham, Frank Cunningham &Helen Cunningham Hibbard.  Also would like the address of NewtownCementary or the directions.

Looking for the familyof William A Cunningham who died June 17, 1923 in accident on the job forthe Castella Crag Lumber Co near Castella Ca at age 36, had been on thejob only 13 days.  He is buried in Buckeye, CA near his home. He left a wife Grace Fannie Morris & 2 childern.  Grace had familyfrom Stockton Ca, her dad W. E.
