California State Library

The California State Library. Its main facility is in downtown Sacramento. The library has an excellent collection of old newspapers on microfilm, including the Mountain Messenger. Of particular interest are the catalogs ("Catalogs" tab) and the California History Room ("Collections" tab).

Meriam Library

Web site for the Meriam Library at Chico State University. It is the largest library north of Sacramento. Be sure to check out the online historical photograph and map collections. Both are indexed by location and there is a person index for the photos. From the web site's home page, select "Library Collections" and then "Digital Collections."

Plumas County Library

Located in Quincy, the collection includes copies of the newspaper La Porte Union on microfilm.

Plumas County Museum

Located in Quincy, the museum contains an extensive collection of historical photographs including some in Sierra County (not posted online).
