CHRISTIAN H. DUNKER
Among the industrious and enterprising citizens of Solano county is Christian H. Dunker, a member of one of the pioneer families of Cordelia, where he is successfully engaged in the dairy business. He is a native of Holstein, Germany, and he was born on the 6th of September, 1870. In the public schools of his home neighborhood he secured his early education, and this he supplemented by attending night schools after coming to this country. His first employment following his arrival in California was on a farm in Glenn county, where he remained for three years. He then came to Cordelia and engaged in the butcher business in partnership with his brother-in-law. Some time later the latter died and Mr. Dunker subsequently conducted the enterprise alone for a time. Eventually his brother Henry bought an interest in the business and they ran it together for twenty-seven years. Our subject then disposed of his interest in the meat market, and during the ensuing two years he was connected with the Vallejo waterworks. He then embarked in the dairy business, in which he is still engaged, with success and profit, at Cordelia.
Mr. Dunker was married to Miss Amanda Lohse, a native of California and a daughter of Carl Lohse, an early settler in Glenn county. They are the parents of four children, namely: Laverne, who is a trained nurse; Vivian, who is the postmistress at Cordelia; Alleene, who also is a trained nurse; and Marie, who is in school. Politically Mr. Dunker has always given his support to the republican party, and he advocates all measures or enterprises designed to benefit the general welfare of the community in any way.
