JOHN LOPES FERRIS
Biography
John Lopes Ferris, is the subject of this sketch, who conducts a popular cigar store on Main street, Vacaville, was born at Alta Maria, in the province of Lucerene, Spain, and is descended from pure Castilian ancestry. He was born on the 14th day of June, 1888, and was reared and educated in his native land, where also he learned the trade of a barber. In 1907, at the age of nineteen years, Mr. Ferris came to California and proceeded at once to Cement, Solano county, where he secured work in the Portland cement plant. He also worked some on neighboring ranches until 1914, when he came to Vacaville. He was employed on ranches here until about five years ago, when he became engaged in business on his own account, establishing a cigar store, pool room and barber shop in Vacaville. He carries a large and complete line of such goods as are usually carried in an up to date cigar store. Mr. Ferris is a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, belonging to the aerie in Vacaville. He married Miss Minnie Polito, who also is a native of Spain, and they are the parents of four children, Celia, Amelia, Jesus and Antone.
