CHESTER B. McCOID
Chester B. McCoid, president of the Economic Laundry Company, Incorporated, of Vallejo, and one of the progressive young business men of that city, was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, May 10, 1896, and is a son of Thomas B. and Jane (Tuft) McCoid, both of whom are still living. Reared in the east, Chester B. McCoid completed his schooling in Trinity College at Hartford, Connecticut, and subsequently, became connected with the Remington Arms Company, afterward transferring his services to the Union Metallic Cartridge Company. On April 6, 1917, the day war was declared, Mr. McCoid enlisted in the army and after a period of intensive training in this country was sent to France, taking part in the memorable and decisive Meuse-Argonne campaign. Following the close of the war Mr. McCoid continued in the army until December, 1922, when he received his honorable discharge with the rank of captain. He then came west and served as general manager of the Mercantile Securities Company of Reno, Nevada, until January, 1924, when he came to Vallejo and bought the old Economic laundry, on the following May 24 incorporating the business as the Economic Laundry Company, with himself as president, his brother, W. J. McCoid, as vice president and E. H. Barnum as secretary, a mutually agreeable combination that has since been maintained. The company has a well equipped establishment at No. 11 Sixth street and under the present management has built up a fine business, the quality of its work appealing to the discriminating.
Mr. McCoid was united in marriage, at San Francisco, to Miss Virginia Wyman, who was born in Wisconsin. Mr. McCoid is a republican, is a Royal Arch Mason and an active member of the local post of the American Legion and is also affiliated with the Sciots.
