Bruno Steinhauff, one of the proprietors of the City bakery at Vallejo and a well known figure in the commercial life of that city, was born in the city of Berlin in Germany on January 15, 1889. His father was a baker and he grew up familiar with the details of that essential occupation, becoming a skilled and competent baker. As a young man he took a trip into South America and was for some years engaged there as a baker, working in some of the chief cities of that continent, including Buenos Aires, Valparaiso and Montevideo, and was there until he came up the coast and located at San Francisco.

Following his arrival in California, Mr. Steinhauff found ready employment at his trade in the bakeries of San Francisco and was for some time thus engaged there, working in the big plant of the California Baking Company and in the Home State Bakery. He then went to Auburn in Placer county and bought a fruit ranch, which he operated until in 1921, when he closed out his agricultural interests there and came to Vallejo with a view to getting back into the bakery business. Here he formed a partnership with W. L. Bolton, under the firm name of Bolton & Steinhauff, and has since been engaged in business, operating the old established City bakery, which under the present management has been equipped with new and modern machinery and is doing a fine busi-ness, carrying on both in a retail and wholesale way and supplying a large share of the trade throughout the section it serves. Mr. Steinhauff married Miss Elizabeth Bierbaum, who also was born in Berlin, and they have one child, a daughter, Elizabeth, born in 1924.
