Solano County Herald > Solano Press > Solano Republic > Daily Republic:
In the beginning there were two: the Solano County Herald and the Solano Press. The weekly Herald was first published in
Benicia in November 1855 then moved to Suisun City on November 2, 1858. The weekly Solano Press was created in 1862.
In 1869, the Herald and Press consolidated and was renamed the Solano Republican, continuing its weekly publication for
the next 91 years. In 1960 the Republican changed ownership and within a year increased its publication to 5 days a week
and was renamed the Daily Republic, the name it holds today.
The Fairfield County Library has most editions of these newspapers on microfilm. They have several microfilm readers
and you can print selected articles for 10 cents per page. Please note that the labels on some early microfilm reels are a
bit confusing and the descriptions may not always match its content. Here are the dates (as best as I could tell) they have on

of the individual you are looking for, along with a self addressed stamped envelope. They will research your request as their staff
time allows. There is no charge for this service.
The Rio Vista Library has all issues of the River News Herald on microfilm. However, due to their limited staff, they are NOT
able to do look-ups. If you are not able to write directly to the newspaper, limited look-ups are available. Email me for more
