About Ventura County "In 1769, Spanish missionaries brought the first citrus to California when they established the twenty-one California missions. Farming in Ventura County started when Father Serra founded the San Buenaventura Mission in 1783. He planted citrus along with other fruit trees and vegetables." An excerpt from Yda Addis Storke's History of Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura Counties may be found here. Ventura County was home to the Chumash |
