Plaque commemorating the town of Buckeye located along the road in front of the Button Ranch on Road 31. (George Leggett, a lifelong resident of Winters, is standing next to the memorial plaque.)
The plaque reads:
“Buckeye - Southwestern Yolo County’s first community was an important crossroads and commercial center from 1855 to 1875. When the Vaca Valley Railroad located two miles west of here, the residents and buildings were relocated to the new towns of Winters and Madison.

(Note: My maternal grandfather, Ray F. Sears, always told us that the house that he lived in used to be the post office in Buckeye before being moved to 29 Edwards Street in Winters. Since my grandfather added onto the the house, and the present owners added another section on to the right of the house. Peggy B. Perazzo)
