The Michael-Jackson-Armfield Building (on the left), faced with light brown Winters sandstone, building located at 617 Main Street (built in 1893) reportedly of stone quarried at Devil’s Gate / Putah Creek quarry 9 miles from Winters. The Diggs-Leithold-Wirth Building (on the right), is a “red sandstone” building located at 619-621 Main Street (built in 1893) is faced with Ventura sandstone from a quarry in Sespe Canyon, Ventura County, California. (According to David Wilkinson, the color of the Diggs-Leithold-Wirth Building is “brownish-lavender...(not red).”)
The Farmers & Merchants’ Bank building once stood to the right/east of the Diggs-Leithold-Wirth Building. It was faced with Arizona red sandstone; and was demolished in 1970, according to David Wilkinson.
Hyman Building (on the left at 608 Main Street) & Armstrong & Alge Building (on the right at 604-606 Main Street) with Winters sandstone trim. According to a quotation in David Wilkinson's book, Crafting a Valley Jewel: Architects and Builders of Woodland, from a newspaper article, the trim on these two buildings is Winters sandstone and Vallejo pressed brick. According to the August 16, 1890, issue of the Winters Express, Benoit Bertholet quarried the sandstone quarry at Devil’s Gate and put the sandstone trim on the Armstrong & Alge Building in Woodland.
The Capital Hotel, originally called Planter House, located at 601 Main Street, Woodland. According to Explore Historic Woodland: A Walking Tour Guide, this is an Italianate brick building and is the oldest existing hotel in Woodland, although no longer used as such. The Capitaol Hotel started receiving guests in early 1869.
